President Bola Tinubu has appointed Attahiru Jega, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as his special adviser and coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform. The announcement was made on Friday, March 7, 2025.
In a statement, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, emphasized that the appointment of Jega is intended to strengthen the accomplishments of the Presidential Livestock Committee and sustain the momentum of current reforms. The committee, co-chaired by President Tinubu and Jega, has put forth detailed recommendations aimed at promoting sustainable livestock reform. These recommendations include the formation of a dedicated Ministry of Livestock, which has now appointed its minister.

At 68, Jega brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He is also a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as the pro-Chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. Attahiru Jega previously led INEC from 2010 to 2015.
With this appointment, President Tinubu aims to drive meaningful progress in the livestock sector, further enhancing national development efforts and ensuring that the reforms initiated by the committee continue to advance.
