PDP, NNPP dying Fast – Ganduje

Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Senator Jibrin Barau welcomed support groups from the 2023 Atiku campaign in 19 Northern States to the APC.

On Friday, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that the opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), are “dying at a fantastic rate.”

This remark came during an event in Abuja where Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Senator Jibrin Barau welcomed support groups from the 2023 Atiku campaign in 19 Northern States to the APC. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President under Olusegun Obasanjo, was the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC.

The groups, known as the Coalition of Atiku Support Groups, announced their defection to the APC and handed over their certificate of recognition to Ganduje. While addressing the new members, Ganduje highlighted the PDP’s struggles, mentioning that they have not yet found candidates for the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State, which he claimed shows the party’s decline.

Five representatives from each of the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) attended the event and pledged to support President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Hon. Abubakar Malami, the Coordinator of the Coalition, noted that their members come from various backgrounds, including women, youths, students, traders, academics, and farmers. He emphasized their efforts to campaign for Atiku during the last election.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau welcomed the new members, calling their decision to join the APC a positive step as the country approaches another election year. He assured them that they would have equal opportunities within the party, just like long-time members.

Barau described the event as a “big catch” for the APC and praised President Tinubu for his efforts to improve Nigeria. He encouraged the new members to work alongside the President to help achieve the nation’s development goals. He also reassured them that hard work is what truly matters in the party, stating that new members would receive the same recognition as those who have been with the APC for years.
