In an update on the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has confirmed that the contact details, including the addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of representatives of the petitioners, have been provided in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Commission today.
According to the statement, the petitioners’ representatives have now provided their telephone numbers, email addresses, and other necessary contact details, which were submitted to INEC’s Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday. This update follows an earlier statement issued by INEC on Tuesday, noting that the petitioners had failed to provide the required contact information, such as addresses and phone numbers, which is essential under INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024.
The statement further confirmed that, in line with the Recall Regulations, INEC has officially notified Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan about the receipt of the petition. The formal letter, which was sent to her official address, was also shared with the presiding officer of the Senate. Additionally, the letter has been published on the INEC website for public access, as disclosed by Olumekun.

The next step in the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti, involves scrutinizing the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners to verify that the petition has been signed by more than half (over 50%) of the registered voters in the Kogi Central Constituency. This review will take place in the coming days, and the results will be made public to inform the next steps for the Commission.
The National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, reassured the public that the recall process will be conducted openly and transparently, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to integrity throughout this procedure.
This recall petition follows a series of controversial incidents involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was suspended from the Senate on March 6, 2025, due to allegations of gross misconduct after a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The petition, titled “Constituents’ Petition for the Recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Grounds of Loss of Confidence,” accuses the Senator of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and a pattern of deceit, prompting the constituents to demand her removal from office. As the situation evolves, all eyes remain on the outcome of the call of Senator Natasha Akpoti, which could significantly impact her future as the representative for Kogi Central.
