In a recent statement, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, to stop sulking and regain some respectability. The APC responded to El-Rufai’s recent criticism of it during an interview with BBC Hausa, where he expressed his disappointment with the APC’s direction and leadership.
El-Rufai claimed that the APC has strayed from the progressive ideals upon which it was founded, stating that politicians are now primarily focused on personal interests rather than public welfare. He remarked, “We have politics of private interest,” emphasizing that many politicians are more concerned about their own agendas than serving the people.

The APC dismissed El-Rufai’s remarks, suggesting they stem from personal grievances following his unsuccessful bid for a ministerial position under President Bola Tinubu. The APC insists that it remains committed to its foundational values and ideals, contrary to El-Rufai’s claims. They argue that his shift to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) does not represent any ideological safety but rather a move driven by self-interest.
In a robust defense of President Tinubu, the APC pointed out that the current administration has made significant strides in governance and economic reforms, resulting in a stronger Nigeria. The party highlighted improvements in GDP growth rates, substantial trade surpluses, and increased allocations to state and local governments as evidence of progress under Tinubu’s leadership.
The APC expressed confidence in its ongoing reforms and welcomed new members who align with its values. Despite El-Rufai’s critical comments, the APC remains focused on promoting growth and stability in Nigeria.
As the APC urges Nasir El-Rufai to get a grip and quit sulking, it remains clear that the party is committed to its principles and the well-being of the nation. The APC hopes El-Rufai can move past his grievances to contribute meaningfully to the political discourse in Nigeria.
