Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has firmly dismissed rumours that he plans to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. In a statement released by his Media Director, Michael Ohiare, Bello stated clearly that he has no 2027 presidential ambition and remains fully committed to supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The clarification comes after a resurfaced video from a 2022 rally began circulating online, falsely suggesting that Bello had launched a fresh presidential campaign. Reacting to the viral video, Bello described the claim as “completely false and mischievous.”
“Ohiare said in the statement, ‘Our principal, Bello, has no 2027 presidential ambition whatsoever. Instead, he is solidly behind President Tinubu and believes he deserves re-election based on performance and merit.’”
Bello expressed shock that anyone would believe the video, which clearly shows banners dated 2022. “The video is an old clip. It’s clear evidence of mischief. The people behind it are just trying to create unnecessary drama,” Ohiare added.

He described the video as a product of desperate individuals bent on dragging Bello into political controversy. “These fabricators are known for spreading falsehoods to mislead the public. They’ve tried to set Bello against President Tinubu in the past, and they’re doing it again with this recycled footage,” the statement said.
The media director also urged Nigerians to be cautious of such tactics, saying the post was created solely to cause confusion and division.
“Pushing Yahaya Bello’s 2027 presidential ambition by reposting a 2022 event as if it’s current is nothing short of deliberate deception,” he said. “The public should ignore these antics and focus on facts.”
Yahaya Bello joins a growing list of APC leaders publicly backing President Tinubu for a second term, reinforcing the ruling party’s message of unity ahead of the next general election. The statement leaves no room for doubt: Yahaya Bello’s 2027 presidential ambition is not on the table. His focus, he says, is to help ensure Tinubu’s continued leadership and progress for the country.
