JAMB Withholds Nearly 40,000 Results as 2025 UTME Scores Are Published

Date:

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which saw more than 1.9 million candidates participate across Nigeria.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced that out of the over 2 million registered candidates, 1,957,000 were successfully verified and took the exams. However, 39,834 results have been withheld due to suspected examination malpractices.

According to Oloyede, rising exam malpractice in Nigeria remains a major challenge despite stronger monitoring and security systems. He noted that 80 individuals are currently under investigation, with Anambra State recording the highest number of suspects — 14 in total.

“This year’s UTME is one of the most successfully conducted in recent times,” the JAMB boss said, citing improvements in logistics, monitoring, and coordination across 882 CBT centres nationwide. Over 10,000 officials were involved in the smooth conduct of the exercise.

Underage and Invalid Candidates

Oloyede disclosed that 467 underage candidates scored above the minimum cut-off mark, while 50 candidates were already linked to cheating through various methods. Additionally, 2,157 candidates had their fingerprints rejected by the verification system due to registration issues, and their cases are being reviewed individually.

He also mentioned that out of the 41,027 underage candidates who registered, 40,260 actually sat for the exam, and their results are being further scrutinised to identify exceptional performers.

Rising Exam Malpractice in Nigeria Remains a Concern

“While many candidates performed admirably, our biggest concern remains the rising exam malpractice in Nigeria. This is a societal issue that must be tackled collectively,” Oloyede said.

He assured that the withheld results would be carefully reviewed and resolved on a case-by-case basis, and legitimate candidates will not be unfairly penalised.

JAMB advised candidates to check their results by texting “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019, using the phone number they used to register.

UTME 2025: JAMB Commits to Integrity

The examination board reiterated its commitment to maintaining integrity in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process and warned that anyone caught cheating or engaging in registration fraud would face strict consequences.

JAMB also used the opportunity to appeal to stakeholders — schools, parents, and candidates — to work together to curb the rising exam malpractice in Nigeria and ensure a fair and credible admission system for all
