NIMC Launches NIN Authentication Service for Secure Digital Identity Verification

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has officially launched a new digital identity verification platform known as NIN Authentication Service (NINAuth), aimed at enhancing secure and seamless identity verification for Nigerians.

In a statement released by the Commission, NIMC explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) adopt the NIN Authentication Service for verifying citizens’ identities, in line with the government’s push to streamline access to public services through digital tools.

The new NIN Authentication Service is described as a state-of-the-art platform that includes web, API, and mobile verification channels. The service is designed to protect user privacy, improve data security, and give individuals greater control over how their personal information is used.

“The NINAuth app introduces a strong layer of protection and requires users to give clear consent before their data is used for KYC (Know Your Customer) or other verification processes,” NIMC said.

What Nigerians Can Do with NINAuth

With the NIN Authentication Service, Nigerians can easily verify their identity and access key services such as:

  • SIM card registration or replacement
  • Immigration and passport applications
  • Tax filings and banking transactions
  • Government empowerment programs across MDAs
  • Driver’s license renewals and other regulatory processes

The Commission highlighted several key features of the app:

  • Enhanced security to prevent unauthorized access
  • User control over personal data sharing
  • Seamless access to public and private services with a single secure sign-on

NIMC’s spokesperson, Mr. Kayode Adegoke, said the launch is part of efforts to build a secure digital identity system in Nigeria. He emphasized that the NIN Authentication Service aligns with the National Identity Policy and ensures real-time authentication of NIN records via API integration.

“This platform ensures smooth service delivery, database harmonization, and supports digital governance in Nigeria,” he said.

Download the NINAuth App

To use the service, Nigerians can download the NINAuth App from the Google Play Store or Apple iOS App Store. The Commission has designated it as the sole platform for all NIN-based verification and identity authentication moving forward.

The NIN Authentication Service is now seen as a crucial step toward creating a more transparent, secure, and user-friendly digital identity management system in Nigeria.
