The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 in the recently released 2025 UTME result. Out of the 1,955,069 students who sat for the exam, only 420,415 candidates managed to score above the 200 mark.
According to JAMB’s breakdown released on Monday, about 75% of the candidates failed to cross the 200-point threshold, while fewer than 1% scored above 300 — raising concerns about performance levels nationwide.

In its official statement, JAMB disclosed that 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to take the exam to demonstrate exceptional talent. However, just 467 of them — around 1.16% — met the high-performance standard for gifted students. Their eligibility for further stages of assessment is still under review.
The board also highlighted misconduct concerns. A total of 97 candidates were caught engaging in exam malpractice, while 2,157 others are under investigation for suspicious behavior during the UTME. Additionally, 71,701 students were absent from the examination, and some candidates with biometric issues are undergoing further screening to determine if they will be rescheduled.
The board noted that a few results, including those of blind candidates and members of the JEOG category, are still being processed. JAMB promised to hold a press conference later in the week to officially announce the 2025 UTME result and guide students on how to check their scores.
Despite the low performance trend, JAMB officials urged candidates to stay calm and await the final 2025 UTME result updates once all verifications are completed.
