Your Attempt to Defect to Our Party Failed, Osun APC Chides Gov Adeleke

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has taken a swipe at Governor Ademola Adeleke, claiming he secretly tried to defect to their party but failed. The APC described Adeleke’s recent denial of defection plans to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders as dishonest.

In a statement released on Sunday by Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, the party said Governor Adeleke should have come clean about his failed attempt to switch parties. According to the APC, Adeleke had allegedly approached party leaders at the national level, seeking an automatic ticket to contest the 2026 governorship election under the APC—a request the party says it declined.

“Governor Adeleke should have told the PDP stakeholders, including Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Dr Olu Alabi, and others, that his attempt to join the APC didn’t succeed,” the statement read.

The APC compared the governor Adeleke’s alleged defection attempt to a “promiscuous housewife” thinking her actions were hidden, saying Adeleke’s late-night political meetings and even a reported visit to APC leader Chief Bisi Akande in Ibadan were known to many.

Meanwhile, Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the APC’s claims, stating the governor has no reason to leave the PDP. He argued that Adeleke’s performance in less than three years has outshined the APC’s 12 years in power, and that the governor remains popular with Osun residents.

“Governor Adeleke enjoys over 80% job approval and was recently endorsed for a second term by Osun workers on Workers’ Day,” Rasheed said. “He has no need to join a party that’s struggling with leadership crises and a poor public image.”

The PDP also accused the APC of trying to distract the public from its internal struggles, saying the party is falling apart due to past failures and internal disunity.
