Ezebunwo Ichemati, the sacked Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, has strongly denied reports that Governor Siminalayi Fubara knelt before former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, to beg for forgiveness and plead for political support.
The reports, which have been circulating in the media, claimed that Governor Fubara met Wike in Abuja for reconciliation talks reportedly arranged by two APC governors and a former Southwest governor. According to the allegations, Fubara allegedly knelt before Wike and later travelled abroad to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek further help.
But Ichemati dismissed the entire story as false, describing it as “propaganda” aimed at misleading the public. He argued that there was no truth in the claim and insisted that Fubara had never begged to become governor and would not do so to remain in office.
“Someone who did not lie down on the ground to beg or lobby to be governor cannot also do the same to remain as one,” Ichemati said. He stressed that in any political conflict, no single side carries all the blame and that reconciliation should be based on genuine negotiation, not begging.
This clarification comes amid growing political tension in Rivers State, with public interest in the Fubara-Wike reconciliation gaining momentum.
He added, “Genuine reconciliation comes with negotiations and shifting of grounds by all the parties involved and not begging.”

Ichemati urged the public to disregard what he called “fabricated stories” and encouraged people to question the authenticity of such reports.
“Even if you be mumu, no be every lie you suppose hear and believe na, even if it tickles your fancy or massages your camp’s ego,” he said, using a mix of English and Pidgin to drive home his message.
He assured Rivers people that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains committed to peace and development and will not resort to desperation or humiliation to achieve it.
“We need peace for the development of Rivers State. Governor Siminalayi Fubara is in very high spirits and passionately committed to the peaceful development of Rivers State, one he’ll not do with his knees on the ground, no matter how humble you think he is,” Ichemati added.
