The President of the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation and former head of the Buhari Youth Organisation, Dr. Jibril Mustapha, has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the race for the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement released on Sunday in Lagos, Mustapha said it was time for Jonathan to listen to the voices urging him to run for president again. He stressed that Jonathan’s experience and leadership could help tackle the many challenges Nigeria is facing today.
“As Nigeria moves closer to 2027, we believe the country needs a leader who can unite the people and move us forward,” Mustapha said. “We strongly urge former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the race for the 2027 presidential election and help bring the change Nigerians are yearning for.”
Mustapha pointed out that Nigeria is currently battling serious issues like economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and banditry. According to him, there is a desperate need for a leader with integrity, a unifying spirit, and a clear vision for the future.
“Nigeria is at a turning point. We need someone who can bridge the divides and focus on national development,” he added. “During his time as President, Jonathan showed a strong commitment to democracy and made decisions that put the welfare of citizens first.”
He said the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation believes Jonathan’s leadership style, which promotes inclusivity and economic growth, is exactly what the country needs right now.
“Under Jonathan’s leadership, we can work towards restoring Nigeria’s lost glory, both at home and abroad,” Mustapha said. “That’s why we are encouraging him to join the race for the 2027 presidential election.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO) is a group of young supporters who rallied behind former President Muhammadu Buhari. Goodluck Jonathan had lost his re-election bid to Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.
Meanwhile, there had been debates about whether Jonathan was still eligible to contest, having been sworn in twice. But in 2022, a Federal High Court in Bayelsa ruled that Jonathan was free to join the race for the 2027 presidential election if he wished.
Justice Dashen, who delivered the judgment, explained that Jonathan’s assumption of office in 2010 didn’t count as an elected term since he stepped in after the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua. He ruled that no law could stop Jonathan from contesting again.
