Tinubu Orders Immediate Overhaul of Security Strategy, Says ‘Enough is Enough’

President Bola Tinubu has directed an urgent revamp of Nigeria’s national security approach in response to the growing violence in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara States. During a high-level security meeting at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, Tinubu told security chiefs that the killing of innocent citizens must stop, declaring firmly, “Enough is enough.”

The closed-door meeting lasted over two hours and involved top figures from the military, police, and intelligence services. After the meeting, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu briefed journalists, revealing that President Tinubu had issued new and tougher directives aimed at ending the recent wave of attacks.

“The President insisted we must work harder to restore peace,” Ribadu said. “He gave us clear instructions on what needs to be done. Even during his recent trip to Paris and London, he remained actively involved, giving real-time directives.”

Ribadu explained that security officials had already visited the troubled areas in Benue, Borno, and Plateau States, following earlier instructions from the President. He noted that Tinubu’s latest directive also stresses deeper collaboration with state governments and local councils.

“We were told to engage more closely with governors and grassroots leaders. Insecurity isn’t only a federal issue, it often starts within communities. That’s why we must work with those directly in touch with the people,” Ribadu added.

The security crisis in Benue, Borno, Plateau, and Kwara has recently worsened, with frequent reports of bandit attacks, killings, and destruction of property. The NSA emphasized that many of the attackers operate in ungoverned spaces and use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to cause chaos and fear.

According to Ribadu, President Tinubu is deeply concerned about the continued loss of lives and has made restoring security a top national priority. “The President was very worried, and he made that clear. He told us again—‘Enough is enough.’”

The meeting included all heads of the armed forces, police, and intelligence community, all of whom pledged renewed commitment to the fight against insecurity.

As the government begins this fresh strategy, many are hopeful that the new security measures in Nigeria will bring a lasting end to the violence plaguing parts of the country.
