The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has officially revoked land and institutional houses that were sold under the previous administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The properties, located within Alhuda-huda College in Zaria, Queen Amina College in Kaduna, and Government Commercial College in Zaria, were among the assets sold by El-Rufai’s administration. Governor Uba Sani’s administration has now reversed these sales, citing the need to protect the public interest and ensure that such properties are used to improve educational infrastructure.
In a statement released yesterday, Dr. AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), explained that the decision was made in the overriding public interest and for the common good of Kaduna State’s residents. The revocation of the land and houses was undertaken to further the state’s commitment to human capital development, particularly in the education sector.
“The Kaduna State land revocation is part of the administration’s broader efforts to ensure a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning within the state. Governor Uba Sani believes that educational institutions should have the necessary infrastructure to foster an environment where students and teachers can thrive,” said Dr. Meyere.
The statement further clarified that the government is taking immediate steps to ensure that all payments made by the individuals who purchased these properties will be refunded. This is part of the administration’s promise to uphold the interests of the public and restore the assets to their rightful purpose in the education system.

“The revocation order for the institutional houses and land allocations within Alhuda-huda College, Zaria; Queen Amina College, Kaduna; and Government Commercial College, Zaria was approved last year, and this order has been conveyed to all allottees. As directed by Governor Uba Sani, efforts are being made to refund all payments made for the sold properties,” the SSG stated.
Governor Uba Sani has made education one of the central pillars of his administration. Since taking office, he has worked tirelessly to bridge the infrastructural gap in both primary and secondary schools across Kaduna State. One of the first significant actions he took after assuming office was to reduce school fees at state-owned tertiary institutions, a move that was announced on August 21, 2023.
Under Governor Sani’s leadership, the Kaduna State Government has undertaken several initiatives aimed at expanding access to education. These include the construction of more than 2,336 new classrooms and the renovation of over 707 existing classrooms. In addition, the state government has provided more than 30,000 pieces of furniture for teachers and students. The governor’s efforts have also extended to improving the physical environment of schools, with the provision of 51 boreholes and 918 cubicle toilets in schools across all local governments.
The governor’s commitment to improving education in Kaduna State is also reflected in his advocacy for better learning environments. According to Governor Uba Sani, “Education is not just a leveler; it is a ladder for upward mobility that transforms lives and improves livelihoods. To secure the future of our children, we must ensure they have access to education in a conducive environment free from distractions, such as the sale of institutional properties.”
