Our Generation Must End Genocide in Plateau State Now! – Gov Muftwang

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, has strongly condemned the persistent violence in the state, calling it a coordinated campaign of genocide rather than random clashes between farmers and herders.

Speaking at a high-level stakeholders’ security meeting organized by the Plateau State Government, Governor Muftwang said the bloodshed in the state has continued for more than two decades and must be seen for what it truly is—a targeted attempt to wipe out communities under the guise of herder-farmer conflicts.

“For over twenty years, we’ve witnessed cycles of violence that go far beyond clashes. Let’s call it what it is—genocide, with a hidden land-grabbing agenda,” Muftwang declared, underscoring his stance on what he described as the Plateau State genocide claims.

The governor emphasized that crisis/genocide in Plateau State didn’t start under his administration or those before him, but stressed the urgency for the current generation to end it once and for all. “We must be the generation that ends this,” he said.

Governor Muftwang said he has personally visited mass graves, displaced persons’ camps, and grieving families. He also revealed that President Bola Tinubu had reached out to him directly to express concern over the continued unrest in the state.

“We’ve been working day and night, but the government alone cannot solve this. We need every citizen, every stakeholder on board,” he added.

Muftwang reiterated that his vision for the state includes breaking the cycle of poverty and rebuilding communities. However, he lamented that progress remains difficult amid insecurity. “How can we build schools when children are running from bullets? How can we grow food when our farmers are chased off their land?”

Reiterating his commitment to peace and prosperity, Muftwang concluded, “I stand before you not as a ruler but as a servant of the Plateau agenda. A servant of our shared future. Together, we must restore peace. Together, we will.”

The governor’s statement is the latest in a series of renewed calls for justice and sustainable peace in the face of long-standing crises and genocide in Plateau State.
