Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has expressed deep sorrow following a series of deadly attacks by suspected herdsmen in Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas. The tragic events have claimed the lives of 20 people in the Sankera axis of the state.
The governor confirmed that five bodies were first recovered in the Gbagir community and taken to the mortuary. Later, residents searching for missing loved ones discovered two more corpses. In a heartbreaking moment, one grieving family chose to bury their relative immediately in Gbagir. Security personnel were present to protect them during the burial.
At the same time, police in Logo LGA recovered 12 additional bodies, bringing the confirmed death toll to 20. Governor Alia stressed that these victims were not just statistics, but real people fathers, mothers, children, and siblings, whose lives were stolen by suspected herdsmen attacks.

He reassured the public that the government and security agencies are actively responding. “I have spoken directly with our security operatives, and I want to assure you we are not backing down,” he said. “We are fully committed to protecting every life in Benue.”
Calling for unity and community cooperation, the governor urged residents to speak up and share any helpful information with security agencies to track down those responsible for the attacks . “Our strength lies in our unity,” he added.
Governor Alia firmly stated that Benue will not be broken by these tragedies. “Benue will not bow to fear,” he said. “We will rise, rebuild, and remain unshaken.”
This tragic incident adds to the growing concern over ongoing attacks by suspected herdsmen in rural communities across the state, as calls for better security and justice continue to rise.
