The Federal Government has officially launched the BisonFly system, a digital platform designed to streamline and centralize air travel bookings for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The initiative is part of broader efforts to promote fiscal discipline and eliminate wasteful spending.
The BisonFly system was unveiled on Wednesday in Abuja by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun. The announcement was shared through the Ministry’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday.
According to Minister Edun, the system is a strategic initiative developed by the Ministry’s Efficiency Unit. It is specifically designed to reduce air travel expenses by leveraging technology to optimize flight bookings, secure bulk discounts, and improve scheduling coordination across the federal civil service.
“In its avowed commitment to ensuring cost savings across all air travels, the Federal Government has launched the BisonFly Project to optimize air travel costs for the Federal Civil Service through a structured, optimized, and technology-driven discount program,” the statement read in part.

Edun emphasized that the BisonFly system represents a key pillar in the government’s ongoing drive to enhance financial prudence. By centralizing bookings and negotiating better rates, the system mirrors successful models used by global institutions such as the World Bank, which have demonstrated measurable success in reducing operational costs and improving service delivery.
The BisonFly system is expected to go live in the coming months. Once fully operational, it will integrate digital booking tools and centralized platforms to ensure efficiency, reduce duplication of efforts, and increase accountability in official travel arrangements.
The statement also revealed that the Permanent Secretary for Special Duties at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Raymond Omenka Omachi, praised the vision and leadership of Minister Edun. He described the BisonFly system as a landmark reform initiative that sets a new standard for responsible public finance management.
“This project reflects the Ministry’s proactive approach to governance and demonstrates that with the right tools and leadership, it is possible to reduce waste and achieve greater value for money,” Omachi said.
The BisonFly system was developed in collaboration with ICT advisers and key stakeholders within and outside government. A dedicated implementation team has already been constituted and tasked with ensuring that the project is rolled out effectively, with clear goals and measurable outcomes.
Minister Edun charged the implementation team to remain focused on the project’s objectives and to work diligently to achieve its targets. He also highlighted that institutional reforms like this are essential for building a stronger, more accountable public service and regaining public trust.
In summary, the launch of the BisonFly system is expected to deliver long-term cost savings, greater transparency, and a more efficient system for managing government travel. It is another milestone in the government’s commitment to digital transformation and financial discipline, aligning with President Tinubu’s broader economic reform agenda.
