A 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, has been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board after a shocking video of him allegedly performing an obscene act with a goat went viral on social media.
The disturbing video, which surfaced on TikTok, showed Shamsu—who lives in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area—seemingly licking the genitalia of a she-goat while instructing someone else to film him. He later admitted to staging the act in an attempt to “trend” and gain fame online.
The footage caused a wave of anger among both Kano residents and online users, with many calling for action. Members of Shamsu’s community expressed their disgust, and some even threatened to retaliate before a local leader stepped in and reported the case to the Hisbah Board, also known as the Islamic moral police.
When questioned by officials, Shamsu denied actually touching the animal, claiming his mouth was only close to the goat. He also said it was his first time doing such a thing and that he wasn’t under the influence of drugs. Still, the Hisbah Board has ordered psychiatric and drug evaluations to determine his mental state.
Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahidden Aminuddeen Abubakar, condemned the act, calling it disgraceful and offensive to Islamic values. “It is tragic that a Muslim man would engage in such a shameful act for social media attention,” he said.
The Hisbah Board emphasized its commitment to preserving public morality and warned others against trying to gain fame through indecent behavior, especially acts as disturbing as the obscene act with goat in Kano.
Authorities are continuing investigations, and more updates are expected. Meanwhile, the viral nature of the obscene act with goat in Kano serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of seeking online fame at the cost of dignity and decency.
