The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has inaugurated a 21-member ad-hoc committee tasked with overseeing the suspended Rivers Assembly. The inauguration took place at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja and was attended by committee members drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
During the ceremony, Speaker Abbas emphasized that the committee’s role is a non-partisan one. He called on the members to prioritize good governance, peace, and prosperity for Rivers State, which is known for its oil resources.
“Your task is to oversee Rivers State following Mr. President’s emergency proclamation. You must not be partisan or biased,” he stated.

The committee is chaired by the House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, while Ali Isah from the PDP serves as the Deputy Chairman. Other members include Idris Wase (North Central), Aliyu Muktar (North East), Sada Soli (North West), Iduma Igariwey (South East), and Shehu Rijau, among others. Wole Oke, Akara hi Amadi, Patrick Umoh, and Isa Anka are also part of the committee.
Notably, James Faleke, the representative from the South West, was unable to attend the inauguration.
