No Merger:
Amidst growing speculation about potential mergers with other political parties, the Forum made it clear that the PDP will not merge with any other group. Instead, the party is open to welcoming individuals and organizations that want to join forces. The goal is to unite and work toward achieving good leadership by the time the 2027 coalition is underway.
National Secretary Update:
The Forum addressed the ongoing situation regarding the party’s National Secretary. Following a recent Supreme Court ruling, it was decided that the Deputy National Secretary would act as the National Secretary until a new one from the South East Zone is nominated and officially approved in the next meeting.
Commitment to Democracy:
The governors reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Nigeria’s democracy. They discussed the importance of obtaining a definitive ruling from the Supreme Court regarding the declaration of a State of Emergency in any state, underlining their determination to prevent any misuse of power.
Support for Governor Fubara:
In light of the challenges faced by Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara due to an emergency declaration in his state, the Forum expressed strong support for him and his people. They pledged to stand by Fubara throughout this difficult time.
Security Concerns:
The Forum highlighted the alarming rise in insecurity, particularly in Borno, Plateau, Katsina, and Edo States. They called for a comprehensive review of security strategies, advocating for a bottom-up approach that empowers local governments to effectively address these challenges. They condemned the recent violence in Plateau State and expressed condolences to the victims and their families.
Looking ahead, the Forum announced plans to work alongside the National Working Committee (NWC) for a National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting scheduled for May 27, 2025. They will form a Zoning Committee to address the allocation of party offices and plan for an early convention in Kano on August 28, 29, and 30, 2025, as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2027 coalition.
