Governor Monday Okpebholo has criticized the Edo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for misrepresenting his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Saturday, Okpebholo described the PDP’s remarks as “weak.”
He emphasized that he has never violated any part of the Electoral Act, including Section 94(1), as claimed by the factional PDP. Okpebholo stated that, like any concerned Nigerian, he has the right to express his backing for President Tinubu’s vision and policies. His strong support for Tinubu’s administration comes as he continues to engage in political discussions about leadership and governance.
While welcoming 17 acting chairmen from various local government areas who recently defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okpebholo confidently predicted a landslide victory for President Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. He highlighted Tinubu’s bold leadership decisions, particularly the removal of the controversial fuel subsidy, which he believes will set the nation on a path to growth and development.

Governor Okpebholo stated, “In Edo State, 2027 is a reality, and President Bola Tinubu will remain in office. I urge all of you to start campaigning for the re-election of President Tinubu. Erect his billboards in your local governments to spread the message.”
He further asserted that there is “no vacancy in 2027 in Abuja,” criticizing opposition figures, suggesting they had ruled poorly and contributed to insecurity in their own states.
The PDP responded sharply to Okpebholo’s comments, accusing him of trying to mislead President Tinubu and the APC by claiming to retain political influence in Edo State. In his response, Okpebholo dismissed their statement as a desperate attempt to twist his words and called it laughable.
“Let it be clear that my support for Tinubu’s administration is about fostering collaboration with the federal government to benefit Edo State. I have every right to initiate a campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election without apologies,” he stated.
He criticized the Edo PDP for being insecure and struggling to maintain relevance, urging them instead to reflect on the goodwill he enjoys among the people of Edo.
Concluding his remarks, Okpebholo emphasized that the good people of Edo State see his commitment to delivering on his mandate and bringing the state toward peace, prosperity, and progress. His unequivocal support for Tinubu’s administration stands firm, as he looks to the future of governance in Edo State.
