The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a tragic accident that occurred earlier today in Iyana Ejigbo, where a commercial bus fatally struck a pedestrian and injured two others. Preliminary reports indicate that the bus, identified by the license plate AAA 927 YJ, was speeding and suffered a catastrophic brake failure, causing the driver to lose control.
In a distressing development, the driver and conductor absconded from the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the victims behind. A statement from Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, revealed that the vehicle veered off course and crashed into unsuspecting bystanders, resulting in one pedestrian’s death and serious injuries to two others.

LASTMA officials responded promptly, removing the deceased, who was pinned beneath the bus, and providing immediate medical assistance to the injured victims. All three were quickly transported to the General Hospital in Isolo for urgent care.
During the rescue operation, officers from the Ejigbo Police Division offered critical support to ensure the situation was managed smoothly. The vehicle involved in the incident has been taken to the police for a thorough investigation.
