Group Dissociates from Senator Natasha’s Homecoming Rally in Okene

The Ebira Youth Congress (EYC) has distanced itself from the upcoming homecoming rally of suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in her hometown of Ihima, located in the Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State. In a statement released on Thursday by EYC President, Comrade Ahmed Bachido, the group expressed concerns over a banner that falsely displayed their support for Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The banner, which read, “The Youth of Kogi Central Are Proud of You, We Are Solidly Behind You,” raised alarm within the EYC, prompting them to seek the identities of those responsible for the unauthorized display. Bachido emphasized that EYC strongly condemns the individuals behind this misleading banner, asserting that they are “mischief makers” trying to misrepresent the organization as a political support group.

“EYC was founded as an apolitical organization, dedicated to promoting the interests of our community, not to endorse political events like Senator Natasha’s homecoming rally in Ihima,” the statement said. They demanded a retraction from those who misused their name and vowed to confront any falsehoods about their organization.

The EYC reiterated its commitment to remaining neutral in political matters, emphasizing that their focus is on community activism, advocacy for development, and promoting peaceful coexistence among the Ebira people. “We will not allow our integrity to be compromised by impostors trying to associate us with political gatherings, especially not with Senator Natasha’s homecoming rally in Okene,” Bachido stated.

As the representative body for the youth of Ebiraland, both locally and internationally, the EYC maintains a clear boundary from political affiliations and insists on fostering unity across different backgrounds. “For nearly 25 years, our original philosophy has been to deepen cooperation among the Esianebira people, regardless of political or religious differences,” Bachido concluded.
