Stop Playing Home Matches in Uyo – Udeze to Super Eagles

Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze is urging the Super Eagles to relocate their home matches from the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Udeze believes that the team’s ongoing struggles at this venue necessitate a change, as they have recorded too many draws in recent performances. He stated emphatically, “the Super Eagles should stop playing away matches in Uyo.”

Following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in the Group C qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Udeze voiced his concerns. This match marked the Super Eagles’ third consecutive draw in Uyo during the World Cup qualifiers, having also ended in stalemates with Lesotho and South Africa.

In addition to these draws, the Super Eagles suffered a loss in their final group match against Rwanda in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, losing 2-1. Given these results, Udeze reiterated, “The Super Eagles should stop playing away matches in Uyo,” emphasizing the urgent need for a new home ground.

The Godswill Akpabio Stadium is currently the only officially approved venue for all of the Super Eagles’ international matches. However, Udeze’s comments reflect a growing frustration with the team’s performance at this stadium, which also hosted home matches during the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. As the Super Eagles continue to seek improvement.
