Senator Natasha Akpoti’s Recall: Kogi Central Political Frontier not Registered- CAC

CAC Registrar General, Mainunat Hamu Modi, emphasized that the commission does not register political groups or pressure organizations. In a letter to a requester, the CAC stated, “The exact name, Kogi Central Political Frontier, is not available on record as a registered entity.”

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced that Kogi Central Political Frontier is not registered as a legal entity, which raises concerns about its petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The CAC confirmed that the group called Kogi Central Political Frontier does not appear in its official records. This clarification came after the group submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 25, 2025, asking for the recall of the senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.

CAC Registrar General, Mainunat Hamu Modi, emphasized that the commission does not register political groups or pressure organizations. In a letter to a requester, the CAC stated, “The exact name, Kogi Central Political Frontier, is not available on record as a registered entity.”

Despite not being registered, Kogi Central Political Frontier sent a petition to the INEC Chairman on March 25, signed by Saliha Habib. The petition criticized Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for not engaging with her constituents and claimed she had not addressed their concerns.

A representative from the group claimed, “This would be the first successful recall. We need a credible representative.” However, many Nigerians are questioning how an unregistered group could formally petition for a senator’s recall.

Senator Natasha responded by saying she had not received any notification from INEC regarding the recall petition. Although a notice dated March 25, 2025, from INEC was said to have been published on social media, she expressed confusion about whether this was sufficient for official notice and stated, “I will ask my lawyers. It’s all crazy.”

The INEC initially rejected the petition for lack of verifiable contact details. However, it later accepted the recall request after the petitioners provided the necessary information.

In summary, the situation surrounding Kogi Central Political Frontier and the recall of Senator Natasha continues to raise questions about the legitimacy of the group’s actions.
