President Tinubu to Officially Reopen the International Conference Centre in May

President Bola Tinubu is set to reopen the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja this May as part of the celebrations for his second anniversary in office. The ICC had previously been closed in May last year due to poor maintenance.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) announced this during his visit to inspect the ICC and other ongoing projects across the FCT. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the rehabilitation work at the International Conference Centre, which he anticipates will be completed on schedule.

The Minister emphasized, “What we are trying to do now is that it is no longer going to be business as usual. You know what happened last time when it was given out to one Senator who was making money and tried to destroy that edifice. When we finish the rehabilitation, we will have a maintenance contract with Julius Berger to ensure the place is well maintained.”

In addition to the reopening of the International Conference Centre, the Minister highlighted progress on the Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) and connecting roads to the Judges Quarters in Katampe District. He is optimistic that these projects will be inaugurated during the anniversary celebrations.

He also mentioned plans to commission road projects in satellite towns like Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari Area Councils. The Minister acknowledged President Tinubu’s support, saying, “I am very happy and I thank Mr. President for the support and encouragement he has given us to achieve this.”

Regarding funding, the Minister confirmed that they are utilizing the 2024 budget and have submitted the 2025 budget to the National Assembly to secure continued financial support for the ongoing projects. He stated, “The 2024 budget will expire in June, and we are still using the funds for these projects. We expect no funding issues once the 2025 budget is passed.”

As preparations continue for the reopening of the International Conference Centre, the FCT Minister remains focused on ensuring sustainable development in the area.
