This unauthorized printing of NIN cards violates the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a warning about the Indiscriminate printing of NIN cards by unscrupulous individuals, cyber cafes, and various organizations. These entities are unlawfully printing unauthorized NIN cards and charging unsuspecting members of the public high fees for them.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in a post on its official X account clarified that no one or organization has been authorized to print any card as a substitute for the NIMC General Multi-Purpose Card (GMPC). This unauthorized printing violates the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007.

The public and organizations are strongly advised to refrain from printing NIN cards that are not authorized by the NIMC GMPC. The so-called NIN cards are not recognized by the NIMC and should never be used as a form of identification. Security agencies have been informed of this illegal activity and are instructed to apprehend anyone involved. Anyone caught in this act will face severe legal consequences.
The NIMC emphasizes that the NIN slip is the only legally accepted document for identification, and it must be verified when presented for accessing services.
In response to public demand, the Commission has also announced plans to launch an Improved GMPC. This new card will be multifunctional, serving as both a physical means of identification and a payment method. The card will be powered by AfriGO, a local payment platform.
