Mohbad: Auxiliary Nurse Narrates How Imole died

pon their arrival, tensions flared as the medical personnel initially hesitated to attend to Mohbad. It almost caused chaos, but they later attempted CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on him in the hospital. After the CPR, the doctor proclaimed Mohbad brought in dead. I became shocked and confused," she said, still grappling with the gravity of the situation.

The court case about the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, resumed today in Ikorodu, Lagos. An auxiliary nurse named Feyisayo Ogedengbe provided key testimony about the events leading up to Mohbad’s death.

Here are the important points from her testimony:

  1. Background of the Nurse: Feyisayo Ogedengbe trained as a nurse at Cornerstone Hospital in Ogun State from 2014 to 2017. After her training, she worked at the hospital for a year before moving away.
  2. Initial Contact: On September 11, 2023, she was contacted by a client named Ayobami Sodiq, known as “Spending,” to give a Tetanus injection to a friend injured in his hand. However, she couldn’t make the appointment on that day due to heavy traffic.
  3. Visit to Mohbad’s House: The next day, September 12, at around 2:30 PM, she arrived at Orchid Estate in Lekki to meet the patient. It was only when she got there that she realized the patient was Mohbad.
  4. Treatment Details: After arriving, Nurse Ogedengbe saw Mohbad sitting with his wife and Ayobami. She noted that the lower part of Mohbad’s right hand was swollen and administered a Tetanus injection to his upper arm.
  5. Medical Decisions: Ogedengbe confirmed with Mohbad that he had ulcers, which led her to give him a paracetamol injection instead of a diclofenac one. She diluted the ceftriaxone injection and started administering it slowly.
  6. Reaction During Treatment: While taking the ceftriaxone, Mohbad suddenly said he felt like vomiting. He went to the toilet and returned to the room. The nurse noticed goosebumps on Mohbad’s body, which worried her, but his wife reassured her that it was normal after injections.
  7. Search for Medication: Mohbad’s wife suggested they get help at a nearby pharmacy after the goosebumps appeared. Since they had no vehicle, Ogedengbe and Ayobami ran to the nearest pharmacy but couldn’t find the needed hydrocortisone and saline.
  8. Finding Medication: They then searched for another pharmacy and successfully obtained the medications. However, by that time, Ayobami received a call that Mohbad was convulsing, prompting them to rush back to the house.
  9. Arriving Back at Mohbad’s House: When they returned, they found Mohbad had already been taken outside by others. The hydrocortisone and saline could not be administered, as everyone was trying to get Mohbad to the hospital quickly. Nurse Ogedengbe stated she did not see Mohbad convulsing while she was there. Due to the lack of vehicles, one of Mohbad’s neighbors helped arrange transportation to the hospital.

After Mohbad was put on a motorbike to rush him to the hospital due to heavy traffic, Feyisayo reflected on the chaos of that day. She recalled, “I had to get down from the neighbor’s vehicle and started running after the motorbike that Mohbad was on. It took about 20 minutes to get to the first hospital.”

Upon their arrival, tensions flared as the medical personnel initially hesitated to attend to Mohbad. It almost caused chaos, but they later attempted CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on him in the hospital. After the CPR, the doctor proclaimed Mohbad brought in dead. I became shocked and confused,” she said, still grappling with the gravity of the situation.

Conversations with Doctors and Increased Tension

The doctor at the first hospital called Mohbad’s auxiliary nurse Feyisayo aside to question her about the medications she had administered. After explaining the exact dosages and medications, comrades started gathering as word spread about Mohbad’s situation. As grief engulfed the room, Darosha, an associate of Mohbad, arrived and was immediately struck with disbelief at the news of the singer’s death.

“Darosha insisted on taking Mohbad to another hospital,” Feyisayo recounted. “Mohbad was put into Darosha’s vehicle, but there wasn’t enough room for me. Mohbad’s wife went with Darosha while I and Ayobami took an Uber.”

Navigating through the heavy traffic again, they eventually learned that Darosha had taken Mohbad to a second hospital in Osapa London, located in Lekki.

Upon reaching the second hospital around 6 PM, Feyisayo noticed that Mohbad was outside because the hospital management had refused to allow him inside. Medical staff checked for a pulse but confirmed there was none.

Continued Struggles and Returning Home

The doctor at the second hospital brought Feyisayo inside to recount her story again. “She requested to speak with two family members, which were Darosha and Spending,” she recalled. After spending about an hour at the second hospital, she left to return to Mohbad’s house, where a crowd had gathered, showing the extent of Mohbad’s popularity and the grief his passing had caused.

“It was already nighttime, around 7 PM when I returned home,” Feyisayo described. “Mohbad’s body was brought back to the house at about 8 PM, and there were many people there. Everyone was outside, visibly distraught, while Mohbad’s lawyer arrived to discuss the next steps.”

Call for Justice Intensifies

The crowd in Abeokuta was not just mourning; they were demanding accountability. They shouted slogans and carried banners with Mohbad’s images, expressing their anger over his untimely death and calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding it. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as they echoed the sentiment that Mohbad deserved justice.
