Nigeria Customs Launches ‘Customs Cares’ Initiative to Foster Community Development

Planned activities include school renovations, mobile clinic activations, food and medical aid distribution, agricultural support, skills acquisition programs, and youth empowerment initiatives. Through these efforts, the NCS intends to build public trust, strengthen community relations, and enhance the overall well-being of Nigerians.

In a significant move to promote inclusive growth and sustainable impact within communities, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has established a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Unit dedicated to its new “Customs Cares” initiative. This initiative highlights the NCS’s commitment to national development, extending its responsibilities beyond trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

The newly formed CSR Unit will lead various programs under the “Customs Cares” initiative, aimed at supporting national development priorities and aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Recognizing the importance of collaboration, the NCS is prepared to partner with other government agencies, non-governmental organizations, private sector stakeholders, and local communities to ensure the success of the “Customs Cares” initiative. This launch marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, with structured programs set to be implemented nationwide.

Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, the NCS is dedicated to integrating social responsibility into its core operations. This strategic approach aligns with the Presidential Priority Areas and reinforces the Service’s role as a socially responsible institution. Through the “Customs Cares” initiative, the NCS aims to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda while fostering community engagement and encouraging staff participation in nation-building efforts.

The NCS is calling on officers, stakeholders, and the general public to embrace the “Customs Cares” initiative as a collective effort to drive positive change. By working together, the Service seeks to create sustainable solutions that uplift communities and improve livelihoods. As the program progresses, the NCS will continue to collaborate with relevant partners to expand its reach and maximize its impact across Nigeria.
