The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant for Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). This decision came after Enebeli failed to appear before the Assembly after a 72-hour ultimatum.
The warrant was announced during a session on Monday, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule. Enebeli was expected to explain his actions regarding the annulled local government elections held on October 5, 2024. Following a Supreme Court ruling, Enebeli has scheduled new local government elections for August 9, 2025.

The Rivers State House of Assembly aims to investigate Enebeli’s conduct surrounding the annulled elections. Recently, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara invited Assembly members for discussions on implementing the Supreme Court’s decision.
The Supreme Court also prohibited the Central Bank of Nigeria and other agencies from releasing funds to the Rivers State government until it complies with court orders. In a recent ruling, the court dismissed Fubara’s appeal challenging the legitimacy of Amaewhule as Speaker, ordering him to resume sessions with the other members of the Assembly immediately.
