Resign or Face Impeachment – Rivers APC Chairman to Fubara

Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resign or face impeachment. Okocha made this statement during a press briefing held in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Okocha criticized the governor’s recent invitation to members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who support former Governor Nyesom Wike, labeling it a “Greek gift.” This invitation came after a Supreme Court ruling that aimed to resolve ongoing political issues in the state.

In a letter from the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, key topics for a meeting with the Assembly members were outlined, including the 2025 budget, unpaid allowances, and finding a venue for legislative sessions.

Despite these efforts, Okocha accused Fubara of disregarding the law and trying to take advantage of the situation. “The Supreme Court judgment is final. There is nothing anybody can do about it. The only option available to the governor now is for him to resign or be impeached,” he stated.

The meeting, scheduled for today at the Government House, aims to address critical issues following the Supreme Court’s decision affirming Mathew Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the House. This ruling has intensified the political tensions in Rivers State.
