Breaking: Mallam Nasir El-Rufai Resigns from APC, Joins SDP

El-Rufai expressed his deep concerns about the current state of the APC, stating, "Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party."

In a significant political development, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced his resignation from the party, effective immediately. In a statement released today, March 10, 2025, El-Rufai expressed his deep concerns about the current state of the APC, stating, “Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party.”

Reflecting on his journey, El-Rufai recalled his hopes since 2013 that his personal values would continue to align with those of the APC. However, he noted a divergence that has become “unbridgeable,” leading him to seek another political platform to pursue the progressive values he cherishes.

He stated, “I have diligently served the APC and made my contributions to its viability as a political platform, but I recognize that the party has since strayed and left me stuck in the vision of its well-meaning founding fathers and mothers.” El-Rufai emphasized his commitment to advancing democratic and progressive principles during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State, where he focused on human development, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

El-Rufai has now decided to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as the new platform for his political engagements. He called on supporters and concerned citizens to join the SDP in a collective effort to challenge the APC in upcoming elections. “I therefore call on all our supporters and other persons concerned about our country’s future to join us in the SDP in the journey towards making Nigeria flourish as a beacon of pride for Africans and the Black Race,” he concluded.

This move marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s political landscape, as Nasir El-Rufai seeks to unite opposition leaders and parties under a unified democratic platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
