Senator Orji Uzor Kalu believes that Nigerians are being unfair to former military president Ibrahim Babangida following the release of his memoir. Uzor Kalu made these comments during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Babangida’s memoir, titled A Journey in Service: An Autobiography of Ibrahim Babangida, is a 420-page book in which he admits that MKO Abiola won the 1993 election that his government annulled. This revelation, made after 32 years, has sparked mixed reactions across the country, with some critics claiming it is too late.

Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North in the Senate, expressed his support for Babangida, stating, “I think Nigerians are very unfair to Babangida because he came out on his own.” He emphasized that the story of Babangida’s time in office is not complete and suggested that he should write a second book to share more details.

He pointed out that Babangida revealed in his memoir that the 1966 coup was not an Igbo coup, a misconception that has unfairly affected the Igbo people for years.
Kalu urged Babangida to include the roles of other military officers in the events surrounding the June 1993 election in a follow-up book. He noted that Babangida faced significant danger during his time in power and that more military leaders should share their experiences.
“There should be a second part of the book,” Kalu said. “If you mention only one name or two, it is not complete. They should tell Nigerians the whole truth.” He added that the way Babangida left power indicates that something was wrong at that time.
