
In a statewide broadcast on Sunday, March 2, 2025, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara addressed the people of Rivers State regarding the recent Supreme Court judgments related to ongoing political disputes in the state.
The governor acknowledged that while his administration disagrees with the Supreme Court’s decisions, they will respect and follow the law as a responsible government. He emphasized that since taking office, his administration has operated within the Constitution and upheld the rule of law.
Governor Fubara shared that he has met with his legal team, who expect to receive the official copies of the Supreme Court judgments by Friday, March 7, 2025. He assured citizens that once the judgments are received, his administration will carefully review them and implement any necessary changes to ensure progress in the state.

In light of the Supreme Court’s ruling against caretaker arrangements in local government, the governor instructed the Heads of Local Government Administration to take charge of the 23 local councils until new elections can be held. He also directed outgoing local government chairmen to hand over their responsibilities to the Heads of Local Government Administration by Monday, March 3, 2025.
Governor Fubara urged residents to remain calm during this challenging time and to continue with their daily activities peacefully. He reassured everyone that his administration is committed to serving the citizens of Rivers State.
