Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, former Senate President of Nigeria, has expressed concern over the recent conflict between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from Kogi Central. In a statement posted on his official X account, Saraki emphasized the negative impact this dispute could have on the integrity and public perception of the Senate.
Saraki urged all involved, including supporters from both sides, to be mindful of their actions and how they may affect the institution. He stressed the importance of adhering to constitutional laws, Senate rules, and parliamentary conventions in resolving the issue. To address the public claims made by Akpoti-Uduaghan, Saraki recommended an open and honest investigation by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. Saraki recalled a previous instance during his tenure when he faced allegations regarding an official vehicle and willingly submitted to an investigation, which ultimately cleared him of wrongdoing.
