The ousted speaker of Lagos State Assembly Mudashiru Obasa has alleged that Mojisola Meranda agreed to resign as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly during a recent peace meeting. Meranda took over the role from Obasa in January.
Despite previously rejecting his removal, Obasa stated that at a meeting held in Marina with party leaders and assembly members, Meranda openly declared her intention to step down as Lagos speaker. “She said that she has stepped down and she has resigned,” Obasa told Channels Television’s Politics Today.
His comments came in response to the police’s decision to withdraw Meranda’s security aides. Obasa argued that since Meranda had agreed to resign, it was appropriate for her security details to be taken away haven stepped down as L. “When you resign from an office, the paraphernalia of office will be taken away,” he explained.

However, later on Thursday, the police announced that Meranda’s security aides had been restored, citing a personnel audit as the reason for the initial withdrawal.
Obasa was removed from his position in January amid allegations of financial fraud, which he has denied. On Thursday, he visited the Lagos House of Assembly for the first time since his impeachment, accompanied by security personnel and supporters. He expressed his intention to resume his duties as Speaker, asserting, “I’ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but due process must be followed.”
Despite Obasa’s claims, a group of thirty-six lawmakers within the Lagos State Assembly expressed their support for Meranda by passing a vote of confidence in her leadership.
