In Katsina, five filling stations were shut down on Thursday for not complying with safety regulations and for under-dispensing fuel. This operation, led by State Controller of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Umar Muhammad, aimed to protect consumers’ rights and ensure that petrol stations follow industry standards.
Reports indicate that the enforcement action targeted stations that had expired operational licenses but failed to renew them as required. Many of the stations were sealed for delivering less fuel than they should, meaning customers were short-changed with less than the standard liter. Additionally, these stations did not have essential safety equipment, including fire extinguishers.

The five affected stations include Total Petrol Station, A.A. Rano, Ashafa Petrol, Maje Gas, and Gwagware International Petroleum Ltd.
The regulatory authority warned these filling stations against diverting allocated petroleum products and promised strict action against any station found violating these rules.
Muhammad reaffirmed the commitment to maintain safety and transparency in the petroleum sector and indicated that similar operations would take place across the state to uphold standards and protect consumers.
“We will not tolerate any actions that go against the rules governing filling stations in the state,” he stated.
