Subscribers of MultiChoice Nigeria were recently notified of a significant increase in their DStv and GoTV subscription fees. In light of this hike, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has intervened.
In a notice sent to subscribers, MultiChoice announced that the price of the DStv premium bouquet will rise from N37,000 to N44,500. Additionally, the Compact+ subscription fee will increase from N25,000 to N30,000, among other adjustments. These new rates are set to take effect on March 1, 2025.
In response to the proposed fee hike, the FCCPC has summoned MultiChoice Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer to a hearing at the agency’s headquarters on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

“The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has called on MultiChoice Nigeria to explain its planned subscription price increase,” stated Ondaje Ijagwu, FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, in a statement released on Tuesday evening.
Ijagwu emphasized that the FCCPC is exercising its authority under Sections 32 and 33 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) to investigate the matter. The commission’s action follows concerns regarding MultiChoice’s history of unilateral price hikes, potential abuse of market dominance, and perceived anti-competitive practices within the pay-TV sector.
As customers await further developments, the FCCPC aims to ensure fairness and transparency in the pricing practices of pay-TV providers in Nigeria.
