Mojisola Meranda, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has denied rumors of her resignation. Her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, confirmed on Wednesday, “I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Mojisola Merenda said in response to speculation following an online report claiming she had stepped down. A circular dated February 17, 2025, suggesting her resignation circulated for two days but lacked an official signature.
The Lagos Assembly is currently facing a leadership crisis after the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru by a majority of lawmakers. THE NATION DIGEST reported that Obasa, the impeached Speaker, has filed a motion at the Ikeja Division of the State High Court, seeking an expedited hearing of his suit challenging his impeachment on January 13, 2025. Obasa, who was impeached while abroad, is contesting the legality of his removal.

The motion, filed on February 12, names the Lagos State House of Assembly and Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as defendants. Through his lawyers, led by Chief Afolabi Fashanu, SAN, Obasa seeks several reliefs, including:
- An order for an expedited hearing of the originating summons.
- An order abridging the time for the Defendants to file their responses to seven days after the hearing and determination of this application.
- An order abridging the time for the Plaintiff/Applicant to file his reply to three days after service of the Defendants’ processes.
Obasa’s application is based on nine grounds, including interpretations of various sections of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Rules and Standing Orders of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
