Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, advised the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday to encourage former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki to run for the presidency to secure victory in 2027. He stated that Atiku Abubakar, the party’s previous presidential candidate, is not the solution, warning that if he contests again, it would lead to the PDP’s demise.
In a signed statement, Ayodele emphasized that Atiku’s best role would be to support a strong candidate, suggesting that Jonathan is currently the most viable option for the PDP. He urged that if Jonathan collaborates with Saraki and garners support from a coalition of opposition parties, the PDP’s chances of success would significantly improve.
Ayodele remarked, “To approach victory, PDP should persuade Goodluck Jonathan to run and revive the party. Atiku is not the answer, and if he runs again, it will spell the end for PDP. He lacks the capability to unseat Tinubu.”
He acknowledged that Jonathan is hesitant and urged the party to provide the necessary support to encourage his candidacy. “Jonathan is fearful of the unknown. If PDP can reassure him and offer full backing, he can help the party survive,” he stated.
Moreover, Ayodele warned that without Jonathan’s candidacy and a coalition, President Tinubu would likely remain in power. He described the ideal candidate to challenge Tinubu as someone desperate, financially stable, fearless, and determined.
“The 2027 election will not favor the complacent; it requires those who are committed to their goals. Defeating Tinubu will be impossible without a candidate who is financially equipped, spiritually grounded, and ready to confront challenges,” he explained.
He concluded that the election will be for those willing to face any obstacle, accept both lies and truths, and remain resolute. “Tinubu is formidable and cannot be easily dismissed,” he added.
