The Federal Government has honored its pledge to Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi’s family, presenting a N30 million cheque more than a year after his death.

Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), delivered the cheque during his visit to the NOA Directorate in Oyo State, Ibadan. He honored Akinkunmi as a national legend, emphasizing that Nigeria’s ongoing use of his flag design reflects deep respect for his legacy.

Issa-Onilu assured the family that this support is not a one-time gesture; the Federal Government is committed to ongoing assistance. The donation was part of a promise made during Akinkunmi’s burial, and he pledged future visits and support.

During his visit, Issa-Onilu also spoke to members of the Tanker Drivers Association at Tanker Park, Akinyele/Moniya, warning against reckless driving, fatigue-related accidents, and fuel scooping, which he likened to stealing and described as extremely dangerous.

He announced that radio jingles in 70 local languages would soon raise awareness about fuel scooping and road safety. Issa-Onilu reiterated the agency’s commitment to promoting national values through the National Value Charter and National Identity Project, urging the media to support NOA’s campaigns to disseminate essential safety and national unity messages to all Nigerians.
