Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai stated on Thursday that his views on the Tinubu administration would remain unchanged if he were still part of the government. This response followed comments from President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala.
At a national conference in Abuja on Monday, El-Rufai characterized the state of governance and opposition in Nigeria as a “national emergency.” He criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its lack of internal democracy and active party structures, saying, “I no longer recognize the APC. No party organ has met in two years—no caucus, no NEC, nothing. It’s a zero-man show.” The APC responded by accusing El-Rufai of treachery for his recent criticisms of the Federal Government and the ruling party.
In response to Bwala’s question about whether he would express the same views if he were still in the cabinet, El-Rufai clarified on his X handle that he had declined any position in the current government. He stated, “I was a cabinet minister 22 years ago and made it clear to Asiwaju that I was not interested in any role in his future government.

He emphasized that if he were still in the government, he would address the issues within the party privately first, then publicly if necessary, citing his public service record since 1998.
El-Rufai expressed his response was motivated by his belief in Bwala’s decency, contrasting him with others he deemed opportunistic political mercenaries. He concluded by reminding Bwala that loyalty to God and country should take precedence over allegiance to any individual or authority.
