The general overseer of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach Evangelist Ebuka Obi of the has leveled accusations of cyberbullying against Omowole Sowore.
Obi, through his Media Adviser, Dan Aibangbe, made these allegations in a statement released on Monday. He called on the police to summon the rights activist for questioning.
He conveyed his profound concern regarding a publication that inaccurately associates him with the recent dismissal of three police officers by the Police Service Commission. He characterized the article as unfortunate, malicious, scandalous, and misleading. Furthermore, he emphasized that the publication serves merely as an attempt to deceive the public and constitutes a smear campaign against the esteemed and uncontroversial figure of Evangelist Ebuka Obi.
The statement clarified that the reasons for the officers’ initial suspension and their subsequent dismissal were previously outlined by the Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Muyiwa Ogunjobi. These reasons included serious offenses such as engaging in illegal activities and theft.
Aibangbe clarified that one of the officers involved, Peter Ejike, had merely been assigned by the police to investigate a case concerning threats to life and cyberbullying initiated against Ijele Speaks. He asserted that the situation had been intentionally misrepresented to tarnish the reputation of Evangelist Ebuka Obi. Aibangbe denounced Sowore’s actions as cyberbullying and criminal libel, urging the police to summon him regarding what he termed a “grossly misleading, harmful, and defamatory narrative.”
Sowore voluntarily appeared at the police department on Monday for questioning in connection with a separate case of alleged defamation. Previously, he had announced on his social media platforms that he rejected the bail conditions set by the Nigerian Police.
