The beleaguered former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, asserts that it is not wrong to pursue one’s ambitions. He has set his sights on becoming the Governor of Lagos in 2027.
During a press briefing at his residence in the GRA area of Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, Obasa invited any state leader to clarify to Lagosians when and where he allegedly expressed a desire to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Obasa remarked, “Aspiring to become a governor is not a sin. However, when the budget was presented on the floor of the house, I stated that I had no intentions of seeking the governorship. This doesn’t imply that I am unqualified or lack the necessary experience, and I stand by that assertion.”
“I remain the speaker until the appropriate actions have been taken,” he stated, criticizing the militarization of the assembly complex throughout the impeachment process. He also asserted that his removal from the position occurred while he was absent from Nigeria.
On Monday, January 13, 2025, Obasa was ousted from his position as the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly. This decision came after over two-thirds of the 40-member legislative body cast their votes in favor of his removal due to allegations of misconduct and various offenses.

Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the deputy to Obasa, was swiftly elected as the new Speaker, marking her as the first woman to lead the legislative body in the South-West state.
Obasa, representing Agege Constituency I, was first elected to the House in 2007 and has maintained his position since. He ascended to the role of Speaker in June 2015, serving in that capacity until his removal in January 2025.
