The Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has partnered with the West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC) to launch Nigeria’s first fibre-to-home internet connectivity project. This initiative, valued at $10 million, aims to boost the nation’s digital economy and provide Nigerians with faster, more affordable, and reliable internet connectivity.
According to Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the project will prioritize meaningful connectivity, ensuring that telecommunications service providers invest in sustainable businesses that benefit the people. Tijani emphasized the importance of balancing service costs with sustainability, recognizing that digital technology drives productivity across key sectors.
The project’s first phase targets three million homes, with an initial investment capital of $10 million. Darren Bedford, Group Chief Business Development Officer of WIOCC, highlighted the project’s significant impact, as most Nigerians currently rely on mobile internet due to limited connectivity.
