The Federal Government has launches Youth Farmers Portal to combat unemployment and food insecurity.
The Federal Government has introduced the Youth Farmers Enrollment Portal, a strategic initiative designed to address the escalating issues of unemployment and food insecurity throughout the nation.
The Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, announced this initiative during a ceremony held in Abuja. Developed in collaboration with the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalisation Programme (NIYEEDEP), the portal aims to create economic opportunities for young people and strengthen the agricultural sector.
“This intervention is crafted to align the youth with the economic agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, encouraging active participation in economic development,” stated the Minister.
He highlighted the initiative’s goal to generate 6 million direct jobs for young people in 2025 across the agriculture, food and beverage, and agro-allied sectors. The program seeks to tackle youth unemployment, alleviate household poverty, combat hunger, and enhance food security, all of which pose significant threats to national stability.
The Minister described the portal as an innovative platform targeting individuals aged 18 to 35, providing access to agricultural training programs, modern farming techniques, mentorship opportunities, and financial support to initiate or expand agricultural enterprises.
“This initiative transcends merely increasing food production; it is about equipping young Nigerians with sustainable skills, generating jobs in both rural and urban areas, and ensuring the welfare and security of our citizens,” Comrade Olawande emphasized.
He urged young people across the country to seize this opportunity to shape the future of agriculture and contribute to national development by visiting the link: http://www.niyeedep.org for enrollment
