PDP Responds to Verdict Recognizing Siminalayi Fubara’s Faction as Legitimate Executives

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially recognized the faction led by Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor as the legitimate state executives in Rivers State.

According to Vanguard, this decision follows a ruling by the Rivers State High Court, which nullified the party’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses held in mid-2024.

In a statement on Thursday, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) now acknowledges Ewor’s leadership, aligning with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The development is a significant shift in the ongoing power struggle between Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Tensions had persisted throughout 2024, with Wike’s loyalists winning the disputed congresses while Fubara’s camp withdrew, citing legal concerns.

However, on January 13, 2025, Justice Stephen Jumbo issued an interlocutory injunction restraining the Wike-backed executives, led by Aaron Chukwuemeka, from acting as party leaders. The court recognized the Ewor faction instead.

Reacting to the verdict, the NWC praised the court’s decision as a testament to PDP’s commitment to transparency, democracy, and the rule of law.

The party urged all stakeholders in Rivers State to cooperate with the new leadership for unity and progress.

This ruling marks a pivotal moment in Rivers State politics, as PDP moves forward under a restructured leadership amid lingering factional disputes.
